Called to Liberty

For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. (Galatians 5:13)

There is a difference between liberty and license. Liberty is freedom to live in a way that pleases the Lord, while license uses that freedom to satisfy oneself. Liberty is ours because Christ has set us free from the bondage of sin and death, and He has given us the power to live righteously -- "Go and sin no more." License, on the other hand, is the exercise of our right to set our own standard and pursue our own end. Yet, the scriptures warn the licentious man -- There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death (Proverbs 14:12). The choice is ours, freedom or license. We should choose wisely, because the consequences are real, and they are eternal.

Now that we are free, let us serve others with selfless joy! Jesus has made us free to bear the peaceable fruit of the Spirit in all we say and do. Let us be willing and able to serve God’s purpose without a hint of selfishness or agenda. That is how God defines freedom -- the blessed honor and opportunity to serve others in His name.

Let’s Pray – Dear Lord, may we walk in the liberty of Christ, Who put our sins to death on the cross. Thank You for the intimate fellowship we enjoy with You, and we set ourselves to do Your will on behalf of everyone we encounter. Thank You for the opportunity to serve others. Amen.

  1. Amen...Amen. It's because of HIS Grace I am able to Choose Freedom. I am Free to dance, I am Free to run. I am Free to live for Him...regardless of my circumstances. Free Indeed...Whom the Lord sets Free, is Free Indeed.
