Rooted in Christ

Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ. For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power. (Colossians 2:9-10)

The Cross of Christ is the only point of contact any man will ever have with a Holy God. The Cross is God's only solution for the sin that would otherwise condemn us. The Cross is not man's idea, but God's. Hell is real and heaven is real, and we all will spend eternity in one place or the other, and that, according to the Cross. Therefore, we must come to Him on His terms, not ours; and we must never follow those who offer a doctrine cheapened with high-minded human philosophy or fruitless religiosity. All true theology and doctrine is rooted firmly in the Cross of Calvary, and it must be embraced by every believer with all gravity and understanding. Some mistakenly suppose there are many ways to God, and they deceive themselves with sayings like, "Jesus is the one way to God, but there are many ways to Jesus." That is a lie, and Jesus Himself says, "No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him . . ." (John 6:44)

Be sure that Jesus Christ remains the center of all your doctrine and practice. Satan would have you substitute your causes, convictions, and your own sense of righteousness for the unadorned Gospel of Jesus Christ. That is a dangerous snare, and the enemy employs it all too successfully. Let it be said that our hope and faith are built on the Man, Jesus Christ -- no one or nothing else. Amen.

Let's Pray Father, I present myself to You on Your terms. Jesus is the only way, and there is no other. May I walk in the truth as it is given in Christ alone. Amen.
