Eat Everything

The lazy man buries his hand in the bowl;
It wearies him to bring it back to his mouth. (Proverbs 26:15)

Only the Father knows the strength we will need to fight the good fight of faith, to establish a good testimony, and to "finish the race" set before us. And as any good parent does, He insists that we eat the food He serves, so that we are well nourished and equipped to meet the demands of the day -- and the demands are great! We must take more earnest heed to God's Word, or we will surely shrink back into the realm of spiritual laziness and impotence which typifies some. The lazy man won't so much as eat the meal God has so graciously set before him. Truly, we are not only to eat, but to EAT EVERYTHING -- every single word! Our lives are to be spent serving Christ and following the leading of the Holy Spirit. These are the saints who mature and possess the energeo of the Spirit -- enough energy to endure to the end.

Many will read about the cross, write books about it, sing about it, debate, study, get degrees, preach, hold meetings and seminars, plant churches, start movements, etc., but they will never actually pick up their cross and follow Jesus. This is the lazy and heady type of Christianity that possesses a form of godliness and none of its power. May the Lord save us from high sounding rhetoric and powerless platitudes that snare so many. May we take God at His Word and live in its power.

Let's Pray - Dear Lord, help me as I discipline myself to read and study Your Word as if my life depended on it -- because, it does. In Jesus alone, Amen.
