Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. (James 4:7)
Humility is the posture in us the devil hates most. He has no answer for it and no power against it, because he cannot humble himself — nor can he touch us when we do. The saint bowed low in prayer and intercession cannot be reached by the lies of the accuser, the lust of the flesh, nor the lures of the world. Down at our Lord’s feet is the most high place — and the safest place.
We must resist the temptation to lift ourselves up, and to present ourselves or our works as something wonderful in themselves. That is an earmark of carnality — "Look at us!" "Look at me!" "Look at what God is doing over here!" That is the crass and commercial spirit of the day. Yet, God looks to abide in the company of saints bowed down at His altar in worship, not lifting themselves up to be noticed and praised.
Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up. (James 4:10)
If the Lord deems us trustworthy, He will send us to share the Gospel with others — but woe to us if we promote ourselves or go without being sent. If you are sent, go. If not, wait, be still, and know that He is God.
Resist the devil with your humility and your patience, and he will flee. Good riddance.
Let’s Pray – Father, I humble myself in Your sight, and You will lift me up in due season. Until then, I am content in Your care and at Your feet. Thank You for Your Holy Spirit of peace. Amen.
Yes Sir.....AMEN.
