The Spirit of Promise

In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, Who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory. (Ephesians 1:13-14)

The hope that Christians possess is much more than the emotional, feel-good phenomenon the world clings to. Our faith is not “blind,” but we seek the eternal over the temporal; and it is much more than, “Don’t worry, be happy.” Christians enjoy a powerful and effectual outlook that is assured by the presence of God Himself in the Holy Spirit. He is our “guarantee” that all we hope and wait for is real.

When we believe in Jesus Christ as our savior and redeemer, we enter into a relationship with the Father that gives us peace and eternal security, and we give Him glory in return. The apostle Paul calls it, “. . . this grace in which we stand . . .” – and this grace empowers us to stand victoriously through every trial and tribulation. We are empowered by the Spirit to prevail through every challenge and live praiseworthy lives for all to witness, and we expect the will and purposes of God to be accomplished on earth, as it is in heaven. The Spirit who lives in us is the guarantee that these things are true, so we say, "Yes and amen!"

Let's Pray - Dear Father, nothing compares to the promise I enjoy in Jesus Christ. May I keep my eyes heavenward and bless Your name in all I say and do today. Amen.
