The woman answered and said, “I have no husband.”Jesus said to her, “You have well said, ‘I have no husband,’ for you have had five husbands, and the one whom you now have is not your husband; in that you spoke truly.” (John 4:17-18)
We must learn to be honest if we wish to go any farther with God. Sometimes the truth is hard and unpleasant but speak it anyway. The woman at the well answered Jesus truthfully, and her honesty opened the door for the most consequential conversation she would ever have. So it is for us.
Jesus Christ is the truth, and a truthful conversation is the only kind He will ever have with us. Until we are honest about everything, we cannot be honest about anything. This is a hard lesson to learn but learn it we must if we are God’s children. He expects honesty, and we cannot go on with Him without it.
Always tell the truth. Always.
Let’s Pray — Dear Father, touch our hearts and renew an upright spirit within us. Impart Your righteousness to us, and we will speak the truth in love. In Jesus, Amen.
