Life Over Law

“Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill.” (Matthew 5:17)

God gave Israel the Law of Moses, knowing they would not and could not fulfill it. That is because the Law was not the end of the conversation, but the beginning. The Law and the prophets

pointed toward something and someone better than works and religious observances — they pointed to Jesus and His Gospel. Israel pursued the law of God through works but did not come to God by faith.

Yet, there is good news. Jesus fulfilled the righteous requirements of the law by pleasing the Father in every way — submitting Himself, even to the tragedy of the Cross. Thus, He is the Savior of Israel, and yes, of the entire world.

This is why Jesus came some 2000 years ago — to fulfill God’s requirement for those who could not — for those who simply believe. Therefore, God is pleased and satisfied in Him; and He is pleased and satisfied in those of us who are found in Him. I hope and pray that includes you.

Let’s PrayPrecious Lord, thank You for considering me, forgiving me, and saving me. When I consider Your great love for me, I am humbled and grateful. I will worship You in spirit and in truth. Amen.
