Now Joshua the son of Nun sent out two men from Acacia Grove to spy secretly, saying, "Go, view the land, especially Jericho." So they went, and came to the house of a harlot named Rahab, and lodged there. (Joshua 2:1-2)
Rahab is the last person we might expect to find as an example of faith; yet, there she is, a woman, a Gentile, a harlot! She is not the type of person we thought God could use, not someone we thought He would reveal Himself to, and certainly not someone we thought we'd find in the lineage of Jesus Christ! We didn't see her coming, and perhaps that reveals how much we have yet to learn about God, and about faith!
If we read the scriptures carefully, we will find faith wrapped in the most unlikely packages. Take, for instance, the boy with the basket - “There is a lad here who has five barley loaves and two small fish, but what are they among so many?” (John 6:9) Yet, Jesus would lift that basket up to the Father and feed five thousand men, not to mention the women and children. Jesus uses the mustard seed as the picture of great faith, the kind of faith that uproots great trees and moves mountains.
Perhaps the Lord is working in your life through people and methods you have not considered. Perhaps He is waiting for you to walk, pray, and live by faith, not by sight. Perhaps He wants to do a new thing in you, something others might say you are not qualified to do, something never done before, something greater than you expected. Perhaps He is teaching you about faith. Perhaps . . .
Let's Pray - Dear Lord, faith is not always found where we expect it. I pray that You find faith in me when You return. Give me an active faith like Rahab's. In Jesus, Amen.
Amen!
ReplyDeleteAmen!!!! Perhaps!!!!! just perhaps!!!! Something about this Word just caught me right there...here!!! I am walking and moving in JUST PERHAPS experience. And there are days that I am at awe...definitely beyond my comfort zone but.....watching to see God, sense Him, believe Him, trust Him....without actually knowing every step I take and what's next. Hoping by Faith its Him by the Holy Spirit moving in me. Watching as my steps are being ordered.
