The Presence of God

But he (Samson) did not know that the Lord had departed from him. (Judges 16:20b)

And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. (Ephesians 4:30)

We must always be careful to handle ourselves in a way that realizes the constant presence of God wherever we are and whatever we do. Respect and reverence for the Holy Spirit is the solemn and awesome privilege of every believer. Carelessness in our personal habits dulls our ability to hear and discern the still small voice of God. He will not shout over the din of the world or the busyness of our schedules. So, we must be careful not to grieve Him away -- some of us have done so and do not realize it.

Every Christian must come to realize what makes us the children of God -- the Spirit of God has been given to live in our hearts. That is the only difference between us and every other well-meaning religious person, and that difference is consequential and eternal. Paying the more earnest heed to the Spirit's voice is the most important decision we can make. It is the difference between blessed assurance and dangerous presumption. May we find ourselves more aware and appreciative of the Holy Spirit’s work on our behalf - - and may we give Him the thanks He deserves.

Let's Pray - Dear Father, forgive me for failing to recognize and respect Your holy presence. May the words I speak and the thoughts I entertain be acceptable to You always. In Jesus, Amen.
