Now it happened as they went that He entered a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha welcomed Him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus’ feet and heard His word. But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me. And Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.” (Luke 10:38-42)
Satan works to get our eyes off Jesus and on work, causes, creeds, religion, our communities, people and their needs, even good things — and we lose the focus the Bible demands we have on the Man, Jesus Christ. You see, the most prominent place we will ever come to is the feet of Jesus. So, we must learn to sit before Him and value the precious moments of intimate fellowship He offers us. That is where we come to know Him, to find our peace and rest in Him, to enjoy Him, and to truly experience His love as we should.
"Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things."
Are you troubled today? Are you busy, distracted, worried, burdened, broken? Perhaps now is the time to set your work and your worries aside, come sit at the Lord's feet, and wait patiently on Him, like Mary. Jesus sees into the dimensions of our being, and He knows the truth about each of us; that He is all we need. Remember, work is not bad or wrong, and perhaps we need to work harder than ever – that is, work to get to the feet of Jesus.
Let's Pray - Dear Father, help me to keep my eyes and my mind on Jesus Christ. I want to sit at His feet and enjoy "that good part" that Mary enjoyed. Thank You for drawing me near. Amen.
