Adding to My Faith

But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith . . . (2 Peter 1:5)

Of course, nothing can be added to the finished work of our Savior, Jesus Christ. He lived in perfect service and sacrifice, He was tempted in every way but did not sin, He shed His innocent blood for our sins, He rose triumphantly from the grave, and He ascended to His rightful place with the Father.

When Peter says, "add to your faith," he is speaking of the spiritual maturity that grows in us as we walk by faith in God. As we yield our attention to the Holy Spirit, He increasingly reveals the sweetness and holiness of Jesus Christ through us. This is the clear mark of a living, growing, and fruitful faith.

We cannot claim true faith apart from Christlikeness. Living faith is always reflected in Christian character, and that character is formed as we learn to apply the Word of God to our lives and circumstances, one opportunity at a time. True Christian character grows as we willingly measure our actions, words, and motives by Scripture, allowing the Spirit to teach and refine us in every detail. As He does, the life of Christ increases in us until we can say, "For to me, to live is Christ . . ." (Philippians 1:21)

Remember, only Jesus Christ pleases the Father. Therefore, let the measure of Christ increase in you each day. Add to your faith.

Let's Pray - Lord, deepen my faith in the Son of God and in His sovereign work in my life. Help me give myself diligently and thoughtfully to the work You place before me. In Jesus alone, Amen.
