And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” (Joshua 24:15)
When the Lord created us in His own image, we were endowed with a marvelous personality and free will – the right and responsibility to make choices. Choice is one of man’s most precious, yet dangerous possessions, so God gives us every opportunity to exercise the privilege of choice rightly. He does this by making Himself and His counsel available to us, by making Himself and His ways known, and by caring for us down to the minute details of life. The Lord wants His children to make prudent and wise decisions.
The best decision we can make is to receive the gift of salvation God offers us in Jesus Christ. The best decision we can make once we are saved is to be filled with the Holy Spirit and walk closely with Him. When we are in Christ, we are complete men and women, as God intended. Our relationship with God enables us to walk in His wisdom and make God decisions, not just good decisions. God decisions are those which take His sovereignty into account as the controlling factor in every circumstance, and we make decisions with His word, His power, and His will in full view. What a wonderful thing to witness in believers, when our choices work hand-in-hand with God’s sovereign will us! While we are all free to choose, may we all be sure to choose Jesus. "But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord."
Let's Pray - Father, I have made my choice, and I choose Jesus. I will choose Him everyday for the rest of my life, and I thank You that You have chosen me to reveal Yourself and Your Son to the world. I love You, Lord. Amen.
